Ah, you've found The Pundit, the mad hermit of the internet! He is to roleplaying games what Lord Selibacy is to relationships, and read mostly for the comedy value. He does occasionally hit upon the truth when discussing the industry, but most of the time can't see past his own ego, which I believe blots out the sun in large parts of South America.

The discussions in the comments are also occasionally interesting, since his moderately high profile in the RPG blogosphere lures in some industry names like Ryan Dancey.

I, as a heartfelt Swine, predict that any Stupid who is outspoken enough about his opinions (such as RPGpundit), will become Swine in three steps:

1. Speak about his opinions vaguely but with great enthusiasm.
2. Eventually succumb to defining what he thinks roleplaying is.
3. Be attacked by other Stupids (or even Swine) who disagree with his definition, because it's an elitistic definition that is trying to prevent the other Stupids from playing the way they want.

Thompsons style is in it's distinctiveness easy enough to imitate, as in everyone recognizes who you are trying to act like, but packing enough substance is of course completely different matter.
Thompson is also somewhat an idol amongst libertarians, the sort of opioned induvidualist many in that particular political movement aspire to be.

Why do all kinds of twits think they have a soulmate in Hunter S. Thompson?

I think Swine is his tribute Hunter S. Thompson.

I have often heard people in our finnish scene implying that provocation for provocation's sake would be somehow inherently good thing, I personally like to wave RPGpundit at their face.
