Holy Fox: Characters

Choose one of the characters below. Before the game, find a picture that represents the character. Don’t worry if it’s a recognizable actor or a movie character. The fox is all about fleeting associations of glamour.

The Pretty Boy

You’re a mid-twenties man with too much street cred to be a hipster and too pretty a face to work for a living. You dabble in whatever you need to be in the moment. Maybe you’re a DJ, or a drug dealer, or an escort, or maybe you prefer people to make a guess.

You live a nomadic existence on the international party circuit, from Ibiza to Goa to Miami. You know a lot of trust fund kids, celebrities and party organizers. You like sound music and the ecstasy of crowds pumped up on sex, drugs and a bassline. You make people turn themselves inside out in their desire to be with you.

Your name can be Aidan or Octavian. Or maybe Zahir.

Your special power is to subtly appear more like the thing the person you’re talking to most desires.

The Beguiling Mystery

You’re a mid-twenties woman at home in cocktail parties, private clubs, exclusive resorts and show business events. You never pay your own drinks, or clothes, or hotel rooms, or plane tickets, or in fact much of anything. You always tip generously with money from people who can afford it.

Others think you’re an actress, the secret lover of a movie producer, or the daughter of someone who’s filthy rich. And perhaps you are some of these things, or none of them. You travel around the world from one exclusive social milieu to the next, always leaving before the people around you really find out who you are. You make people give away everything they have.

Your name can be Violetta or Indigo, Ciara or maybe just Hope.

Your special power is to create an aching need to find more about you.

The Illusionary Man

You’re an older gentleman of distinction and class. Or at least, that’s the impression you cultivate. In reality, you live in a succession of hotel rooms and the residences of people who are taken with you. You sound like you have great ideas, proposals worth considering, partnerships that will make everyone big. You create an illusion of erudition and worth, while actually you barely have the clothes on your back.

You can be found at resorts reading a newspaper in a cafe, on the racetrack giving tips, or in aristocratic family gatherings where nobody can quite remember who’s relative you are. When people annoy you, you fool them into wrecking their lives.

Your name can be Bramwell, Desmond or Bernard. Or Clifford.

Your special power is to sound so reasonable, people around you suppress their critical faculties.

The Deviant Madam

You’re a middle-aged lady of distinction and charm. Something in your character makes you stand out in any crowd, drawing attention and inspiring dreams that make people question who they really are. You like to play with people, making them do amusing things to themselves and each other.

You’re a power behind the throne, even if the people around you don’t quite know what your actual position is. You travel around the world with few possessions, moving from one lavish situation to the next, often in the contexts of aristocracy or the entertainment business.

Your name might be Alexandra, Claudia, Victoria or Lucia. If it’s fit for an Empress, it’s fit for you.

Your special power is to instill a desire to make you happy.

Common Characteristics

All foxes share some common characteristics.

You’re each other’s best friends and worst enemies. You’re loyal to other foxes, but you also want to do better than them. The spirit of competition is alive and well, although the rules change.

You’re bad liars and good hustlers. Charm is key, and you have it in plenty.

Live in the moment. You can fall in love tonight and disappear tomorrow.

Luxury is a beautiful thing. You have few possessions, but you burn through fur coats (as long as it’s not fox), caviar and foie gras like no tomorrow.

Your morality is sentimental. If a pretty little thing is in trouble, you must help him or her. But if someone needs to be destroyed, you won’t feel bad about it.
