This is a series of posts where I play 100 boardgames.

Game: 7 Wonders
Expansion: Cities

Cities adds several new mechanics to 7 Wonders and also includes a new type of card, color coded black, that’s added to the decks of all three eras. It represents the remains of cities, and is markedly more hostile in tone than the core game. There’s also a debt mechanic (where debt means negative victory points) and a possibility to become neutral in military conflicts.
The only black card I used was Smuggler’s Cache, which lowered the cost of using resources from other players. Other cards that saw play gave you a lot of coins and other players a little, increased military strength, or even stole money from other players while also giving victory points to you.
Cities integrated into the core game smoothly, to the point where it felt like just a standard part of the experience.
